Day 1: Londorossi Gate (2,100m) to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp (2,820m)

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from
Moshi or
Arusha to the
Londorossi Gate, where you’ll complete registration. The trek starts through lush rainforests, home to black-and-white colobus monkeys, before reaching
Mti Mkubwa Camp, also known as Big Tree Camp, for your first night.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa (2,820m) to Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)
- Hiking Distance: 8 km (5–6 hours)
- Habitat: Moorland
Leave the rainforest behind as you ascend into the
moorland zone. The trail leads to the stunning
Shira Plateau, where you’ll enjoy incredible views of Kibo Peak. Arrive at
Shira 1 Camp for the night.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)
- Hiking Distance: 7 km (3–4 hours)
- Habitat: Moorland
Enjoy a leisurely trek across the
Shira Plateau, one of the most scenic parts of the route. Take in views of the towering
Kibo Peak and the distant Mount Meru. Arrive at
Shira 2 Camp, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) to Lava Tower (4,630m) to Barranco Camp (3,960m)
- Hiking Distance: 10 km (6–8 hours)
- Habitat: Semi-desert
Today is an important acclimatization day. Hike to the iconic
Lava Tower at 4,630 meters, then descend to
Barranco Camp at 3,960 meters. This “climb high, sleep low” approach helps your body adapt to the altitude. The trail offers stunning views of the Western Breach and the Barranco Valley.
Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,960m) to Karanga Camp (4,035m)
- Hiking Distance: 5 km (4–5 hours)
- Habitat: Alpine Desert
Start your day by scaling the
Barranco Wall, a steep but manageable climb that rewards you with breathtaking views of the valley below. Continue through alpine desert terrain to reach
Karanga Camp, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 6: Karanga Camp (4,035m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)
- Hiking Distance: 4 km (4–5 hours)
- Habitat: Alpine Desert
The trek to
Barafu Camp, your base camp for the summit attempt, is short but steep. Arrive early to rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the midnight ascent to the summit.
Day 7: Barafu Camp (4,640m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Camp (3,080m)
- Hiking Distance: 15 km (10–14 hours)
- Habitat: Arctic (summit), Rainforest (descent)
The summit attempt begins at midnight. Trek under the stars to reach
Stella Point (5,739m), then continue to the ultimate goal:
Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your incredible achievement before descending to
Mweka Camp for a well-earned rest.
Day 8: Mweka Camp (3,080m) to Mweka Gate (1,630m)
- Hiking Distance: 10 km (3–4 hours)
- Habitat: Rainforest
On your final day, descend through the lush rainforest to the
Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Celebrate with your team before returning to
Moshi or
Arusha.
